Impacted Tooth Extraction in Denver CO Area

No one likes them, but wisdom teeth extractions may be necessary to resolve pain and prevent future health complications. At Urgent Dental of Denver, we combine gentle care with advanced technology to administer safe and effective dental extractions. Whether you need one or several wisdom teeth removed, you can count on Dr. Drew Boyd for expert care.

When it’s time for wisdom tooth extraction in Denver, Colorado, we ensure you feel fully informed and at ease about the process. We’ve compiled some of the most common tooth extraction questions our patients ask, along with clear, detailed answers. We hope this information helps ease any concerns about the procedure. If you still have questions, don’t hesitate to call our team to provide the answers you need.

1. Does everyone have wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth or third molars are the last teeth to grow at the back of the mouth, usually between late teenage years and early twenties. Not everyone develops wisdom teeth. While most individuals have four wisdom teeth—two on the top and a similar number on the bottom—some may have fewer, and others may not develop any. A dental exam and X-rays can confirm how many, if any, you have.

2. When does my wisdom tooth need removal?

Since wisdom teeth arrive late, the jawbone often has insufficient space to accommodate them. As a result, they cause overcrowding or remain impacted (trapped) beneath the gum line, causing several dental issues.

Some include:

  • Pain and swelling
  • Their position makes them challenging to clean, increasing cavity risk
  • Damage to the surrounding structures
  • Jaw pain and stiffness
  • Cysts formation
  • Crowding creates alignment issues

Dr. Boyd will evaluate your symptoms and X-ray results to determine if your wisdom teeth need to be removed. If left unaddressed, wisdom teeth can cause unnecessary pain, damage, and costly repairs.

    3. Do all wisdom teeth need removal?

Not all wisdom teeth need to be removed. Dr. Boyd won’t recommend removal if your wisdom teeth are healthy, fully erupted, properly aligned, and easy to clean. However, regular checkups are essential, as problems can develop later in life. Sometimes, we may suggest removing wisdom teeth, even if they don’t cause problems now. This proactive step is necessary to prevent future issues.

    4. Will my tooth extraction hurt?

Many patients postpone dental treatment because of anxiety or fear of pain. However, dental extractions are nothing to fear in our Denver, CO, office. We use local anesthesia, sedation, or a combination of both during the procedure to ensure a comfortable experience. Afterward, we give you easy-to-follow instructions for a seamless recovery.

    5. Should I replace my wisdom teeth?

No replacement is necessary. Wisdom teeth are not essential for chewing or function. Once they are removed, there’s no need to replace them with implants, bridges, or dentures.

    6. How long does recovery take?

Recovery time varies, but most patients feel significantly better within 3–5 days, with complete healing taking a couple of weeks. Our patients are pleased to discover recovery is much easier than expected.
